The Schiaparelli Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2024 show in Paris on January 22 draws its inspiration from our modern fascination with creatures out there. Space and astrology have always been the informal code of Schiaparelli and this time’s collection also pays homage to the Maison’s interstellar obsession.
Another guiding philosophy of Schiaparelli sees beauty in contradictions. “Contradictions of legacy and the avant-garde, of the beautiful and the provocative, of the earthbound and the heaven-sent.” As a result, many looks in this collection saw the combination of old-world techniques with new shapes, patterns, and references.
The Maison’s creative director Daniel Roseberry took over the internet with his futuristic, extraterrestrial collection with a touch of Western cowboy feel. The microchip-encrusted cyborg baby appeared cradled by a model in soft white cargo pants and an undershirt. The black funnel neck collars were sculpted above the model’s shoulders and the cream-colored dress was curved in asymmetrical angles. A dress was made with flip phones, motherboards, and CDs, and an oversized white jacket was adorned with iconic horse braid dressage knots that transformed into silk spikes. With the whole array of varying silhouettes, the collection maintained its cohesion with the blending color palette of blacks, whites, creams, and accents of gold and silvers.
Stars like Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya sat front row at the show with strikingly iconic style. Jennifer Lopez showed up in a custom Schiaparelli jacket decorated with 7,000 fluffy white rose petals which were kept alive with sugar water. Zendaya who also debuted micro blunt bangs appeared in an otherworldly look in a black mock neck top decorated with 3D knots detailed down each arm.
