@ Dior

On April 15th, 2024, the Brooklyn Museum became the focal point of the fashion world as it illuminated to unveil Dior's latest fall pre-collection, curated by Maria Grazia Chiuri, the brand's creative director. The event brought together Parisian elegance and the raw artistic vibe of New York City, creating an evening infused with a chic rebellion and feminist essence. Chiuri drew inspiration from the androgynous allure and distinctive style of Marlene Dietrich, the legendary German-born actress who captivated the early 20th-century zeitgeist with her sharp tailoring and black-and-white ensembles.

The runway show at the Brooklyn Museum paid tribute to Dietrich's legacy, with models showcasing statement pieces like leopard print coats, deconstructed shirts, and leather aviator jackets, embodying her bold approach to fashion. Building upon the collection initially unveiled in December, Chiuri introduced ten New York-inspired looks, featuring denim imprinted with the city skyline, reminiscent of the 1980s aesthetic associated with Tony Alamo. The Statue of Liberty, an emblem of both New York and Paris, was prominently featured in garments and accessories, symbolizing freedom and unity between the two cities.

The event seamlessly merged fashion, art, and music, with contributions from artists like Claire Fontaine and Suzanne Santoro, along with a soundtrack featuring Yoko Ono and Kim Gordon. Chiuri's designs emphasized freedom and empowerment, allowing women to embrace their individuality. The collection showcased a blend of heritage and contemporary influences, with trench coats and skirts adorned with prints of iconic monuments, echoing Chiuri's commitment to women's rights in today's socio-political climate.

As the lights dimmed, Chiuri's artistic vision and dedication to craft left a lasting impression of elegance, rebellion, and feminist strength. Dior's Pre-Fall 2024 collection celebrated the enduring spirit of womanhood and the boundless possibilities of style, attracting celebrities and fashion icons like Naomi Watts, Charlize Theron, and Mickalene Thomas to the front row. The venue was adorned with Lady Dior bags, symbolizing the brand's timeless allure.

During the exclusive event, notable celebrities like Rachel Zegler, Anya Taylor-Joy, Naomi Watts accompanied by her daughter, Charlize Theron, and Mickalene Thomas were in attendance. Anya Taylor-Joy, along with her husband Malcolm McRae, also graced the occasion. Among the prominent guests seated in the front row were Rosamund Pike, Michelle Williams, Alexandra Shipp, Diane Kruger, Anna Diop, Team USA surfer Carissa Moore, and K-pop sensation Haerin from NewJeans, who arrived with an entourage in tow.
