Held at the spot where the future of filmmaking is envisioned and brought to life, the 2022 Academy Awards continued the legacy of its influence on statement style designed by fashion powerhouses. But the relationship between designer fashion and Hollywood glamor isn’t just limited to the night of the award show. Exclusive parties before and after host celebrity influencers, directors, actors, producers and more further establishing the cornerstone of this relationship.
Once hesitant to adapt with the evolution of the fashion landscape, Gucci now remains embedded in the domination of time-honored and trendy looks that appear on the red carpet. Billie Ellish arrived at Dolby Theatre in what was characterized as “gothic Gucci”, while Jessica Chastain portrayed the brand’s versatility in a bright and shimmery gown. On the night before the show, the fashion house held a dinner in celebration of Chastain at Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura in Beverly Hills. A small, mod soiree gathered close friends of Chastain, such as Anne Hathaway and Zoe Saldana.
Two more fashion houses paid tributes to Hollywood stars by hosting pre-Oscar parties. Chanel and Charles Finch hosted in the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel as they have for the last few years. Giorgio Armani put on a celebratory cocktail party hosted by Roberta Armani herself to honor Nicole Kidman’s nomination for “Best Actress” and the reopening of their original store on Rodeo Drive. Saint Laurent brought together fan-favorites and the fashion it-girls, Zendaya, Hailey Bieber and Zoë Kravitz in the Hollywood Hills for an extravagant party the night before the show.
While collaborations standout before the show, the Oscars red carpet proves to embody fashion without limits. Simplicity is a vision, and the style is homogeneous. Timothée Chalamet was the essence of this wearing a Louis Vuitton suit from creative director Nicolas Ghesquière’s 2022 spring womenswear collection. But the sapphire carpet at the Vanity Fair after party proved to also be the ground in which Hollywood’s progression coincided with mirrored designs. Dominic Fike and Hunter Schafer stole the attention of photographers as they arrived together, making their official debut as a couple. Wearing a floor-length Rick Owens gown, Schafer looked just as cozy next to Fike as she did in the most recent season of Euphoria.
Talented artists and celebrities give way to the influence of designer fashion in America with the Oscars as the main event.
