Billboard’s long-awaited Top Holiday Albums chart has returned for 2023’s festive season and Cher has come out on top with her new album. The star’s album is her first to focus on Christmas and has proved to be a roaring success.
Cher, whose full name is Cherilyn Sarkisian, needs no introduction. The 77-year-old star has had a glorious career so far spanning six decades. In this time she has become a household figure, releasing hits such as “Believe” and “I Got You Babe”. Her enduring career has cemented her as pop royalty, and Cher certainly gives no sign of stopping, as her creative take on festive music explains.
Her latest album, released on October 20th, has become an instant success on the Billboard Top Holiday Albums. Calculated through an analysis of multi-metric consumption, Cher’s new album earned the equivalent of 21,000 album units in the first week of sales.
“Christmas” is available on most streaming services, digital download and four CD variants. Each variant comes with alternative cover art, all awash with festive motifs. Cher’s latest musical endeavour will also be available to purchase on ruby-red vinyl from November 17.
The superstar showcases her instantly recognisable vocals across the album and traverses musical genres. “Christmas” contains music reminiscent of the ‘60s dance scene and even modern rap, thanks to her collaboration with musician Tyga in the single ‘Drop Top Sleigh Ride.’ Other features include festive veteran Michael Bublé in “Home” and “What Christmas Means To Me” with Stevie Wonder.
The popstar discussed the album on her Instagram, stating “I never say this about my own records but I’m really proud of this one. It is one of the most amazing highlights of my career.’
Cher’s new album adds to her impressive discography – with “Christmas” being her 27th studio release. A veteran of the industry and a figure of enduring relatability, there can be no doubt that Cher’s latest release will add to an array of timeless Christmas classics.
