CHANEL RESORT 24' COLLECTION: CHANEL MAKES HOLLYWOOD A FASHION PLAYGROUND

High fashion has always had a strong relationship with the world of film; cinema aesthetics and film celebrities have been the source of inspiration for most designers and high fashion houses since forever. Amidst them, Chanel has a long history of symbiotic relationship with the film industry; from Coco Chanel’s short but influential tenure in Hollywood to Virginie Viard’s costume design days, the relationship is close and personal. For their Resort 2024 collection, the fashion powerhouse chose to celebrate this interaction by staging a Hollywood-meets-Paris show at a plaza near the Melrose gate of Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood. The show has been part of Chanel’s great synergistic relationship with the MET exhibition celebrating Karl Lagerfeld’s legacy and -in a more commercial aspect- the opening of their brand new 30,000-square-foot store right on Rodeo Drive. You can't get more American than that. Inside the venue, the runway was set up much like a football stadium while strong lighting and scoreboards along with a film projection by photographers Inez & Vinoodh starring actress Alma Jodorowsky. The celebrity list included Chanel favorites such as Chloe Sevigny, and Margot Robbie as well as Kristen Stewart, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Marion Cotillard. The show notes reminded us that “Together, fashion and cinema lead us into a waking dream nourished by an energetic invitation to step into the spotlight and never leave the dance floor”, and the collection itself was very much Hollywood glam-meets Barbiecore with some modern French twist in between. The show included presented tight-fitting tweeds, neon bright swimsuits, and shiny tracksuits styled to the nines with gold jewelry, leg warmers, and sneakers.
