Intimate invitation through Michele’s mind and heart, Rome his native home hosted the show at the Capitoline Museums, a place where Alessandro used to visit the weekends as a child. But beside this personal invitation to Michele´s memories and source of inspiration, location had also a powerful meaning: “It was really important to organise this show in Rome in a time when it’s important to glorify this place that is a place of freedom. All the beautiful things surrounding us from the pagan world are connected to a freedom that has sometimes been threatened.
“It’s a dream to represent such a timeless and iconic brand. The history of the Chanel woman is so exciting and the brand has remained such a powerful feminine standard of style,” Robbie said in a statement released by the brand. The house is highly recognized for their iconic muses, have had many over the past years, all of them sharing qualities resemblance of Coco Chanel, independent, elegant, powerful women, Robbie joins the list of great muses such as: Catherine Deneuve, Ines De La Fressange, Keira Knightley, Nicole Kidman, Audrey Tautou, Cara Delevingne among others, becoming now a fragrance ambassador.
The message was straightforward-the old Celine was back. Hedi Slimane shocked everyone at the Spring show last season when the models came onto the runway dressed in a new Celine, one that was more reminiscent of Slimane’s rebellious, punk rock Saint Laurent than anything Celine would ever put its name on. The Celine Fall 2019 Ready to Wear show in Paris was one to be remembered. Though the runway photos don’t capture it, the show started with a model standing in a box, mirrors on all sides. It hung high above the runway, then slowly made its descent down to the floor.
Inspired by human hybrids fantasy, Iris van Herpen gave us an ethereal couture show spring 2019. Vaporous and dramatic, all silhouettes explored celestial extravaganza. Op art inspired print and 3D breathtaking couture shapes make this spring 2019 collection one to remember.
KARL LAGERFELD'S PRE-FALL 2019 SHOW
PENELOPE CRUZ AND PHARRELL WILLIAMS IN LAGERGELD'S GOLDEN 'ANCIENT EGYPTIAN' SHOW
Karl Lagerfeld, chief creative director of Chanel, held the Chanel pre-fall 2019 fashion show at the Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Lagerfeld, who is known for dazzling, larger than life events, chose this venue for the 17th annual “Metiers d’Art” show. Every year, it takes place in a different city to celebrate the brand. The ancient temple, finished in 10BC, was the centerpiece for the show. Also chosen as the centerpiece for the museum’s annual spring fashion gala, the temple made the Chanel show feel like a smaller version of the Met Gala.
The most highly anticipated and controversial fashion show of the season was the Celine Spring 2019 ready-to-wear show. It didn’t come as much of a surprise that Hedi Slimane completely took Celine in a new direction, one that is more masculine, rocker chic, and reflective of his days at Dior Homme and, more recently, Saint Laurent. His signature stick thin, pale, androgynous models lined the runway in dark colors (hence the title of the show, “Paris La Nuit”) and boxy, masculine silhouettes.
Publishers Roger and Mauricio Padilha have written several different Art and Fashion books, some of them being: Antonio Lopez: Fashion, Art, Sex and Disco, The Stephen Sprouse Book, and The Work of Chris von Wangenheim. The book will be titled Richard Bernstein Starmaker and will be published on September 4th of this year.
Azzedine Alaïa. Fashion legend. Man of vision. Loved by everyone. The entire fashion world mourned his loss last November. He was known for his timeless designs and ability to empower women with exquisite clothing designed carefully and uniquely for the female body. “I dressed women directly on their body, by intuition”, Alaïa once said. Alaïa was loved and admired by everyone in the industry. One of his closest friends was supermodel Naomi Campbell, who called him “Papa.”
Like other big couture houses, Gucci joined the trend of having the resort show in France; except Gucci did it somewhat and somewhere different: at an ancient Roman cemetery. The Promenade Des Alyscamps is the name of the Roman Necropolis that was turned into a cemetery, and then turned into a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Chanel 2019 Cruise Fashion Show took sail at the Grand Palais in Paris, where Karl managed to amaze us yet again with quite a show.
A surrealistic vision of a 100-meter boat in the middle of the Grand Palais left the audience speechless as the show started. From lights that resembled ocean waves, to a magical starred night sky, to steam coming out of the boat and seagull noises in the background, Karl took the audience on board to what may be his biggest show yet. The enormous prop ship was named La Pausa, after Coco Chanel’s summer Villa in the South of France.
Designer Anthony Vaccarello has chosen unstoppable model Kaia Gerber as his muse for this new season. She walked the YSL Fashion show, and now she stars in the brand’s Pre-Fall 2018 Campaign. The collection is full of Carnaby-street, London-inspired looks that take us back to the 60s.
For the very first time ever, Balmain’s Italian store opened its doors to the public. In a beautiful baroque building, Paris-meets-Milano extravaganza will take your breath away. Balmain’s Creative Director Olivier Rousteing designed the store and it is located on favolosa Via Montenapoleone. The store is nothing but a luxurious experience to its shoppers. Vintage furniture. Mirrors. Chandeliers.
Under the night Parisian skies, with the Eiffel Tower right next to it, the Saint Laurent show took place in a contemporary box-like structure. With big, bright spotlights moving around not only on the runway, but outside as well, tourists and outsiders were given quite the show and had them wondering what was going on.
Black everything. Lace. Velvet. Leather. Embroidery. Fur. Tassels. It is not new for a designer to mix and match, but Anthony Vaccarello did it in such a smooth, elegant, yet bold way.

With bright colors, dramatic volume, and bold shapes, Marc Jacobs stole the show during NYFW 2018. With a show filled with fun, yet dramatic looks, the designer made us feel a bit of nostalgia and took us back to the fabulous 80s. Go big or go home: Big, bold shoulders and sleeves. Heavy fabrics. Oversize coats, dresses, and skirts. Big scarves, large neck bows.
Mixing the present era with a world of fantasy, and hint of surrealism, Alessandro Michele gave the audience and the world a lot to talk about for the next few days. The runway, which looked like a surgical laboratory, had mint-green walls and lights hanging from the ceiling; as well as hospital beds. The show did not only mix lace, floral prints and sequences, but also mixed classic Italian looks with accessories never seen before.
