KARL LAGERFELD'S PRE-FALL 2019 SHOW
PENELOPE CRUZ AND PHARRELL WILLIAMS IN LAGERGELD'S GOLDEN 'ANCIENT EGYPTIAN' SHOW

Karl Lagerfeld, chief creative director of Chanel, held the Chanel pre-fall 2019 fashion show at the Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Lagerfeld, who is known for dazzling, larger than life events, chose this venue for the 17th annual “Metiers d’Art” show. Every year, it takes place in a different city to celebrate the brand.
The ancient temple, finished in 10BC, was the centerpiece for the show. Also chosen as the centerpiece for the museum’s annual spring fashion gala, the temple made the Chanel show feel like a smaller version of the Met Gala. The guest list included Penelope Cruz, Julianne Moore, Margot Robbie, Marion Cotillard, Lily-Rose Depp, Jerry Seinfeld, Sofia Coppola, and many more. One of the most notable stars of the show was Pharrell Williams, who just announced a collaboration with the brand.
Complemented by the ancient Egyptian backdrop, this show featured gold thigh-high boots, gilded dresses with feathered accessories, distressed denim, tweed, jewel tones and Egyptian inspired jewelry.
