MOVING TO MELROSE
THE ADIDAS X GUCCI POP-UP STORE
By Kaleigh Werner
Joining the infamous high fashion hotspot in Los Angeles, the first ever Adidas x Gucci pop-up store is being brought to Melrose on June 7th. Completely covered in ivy, the space is marked by the large collaboration symbol, an Adidas trefoil with “Gucci” wrapped underneath. What used to be home to a Marc Jacobs retail space, this location will consist of the largest assortment of the collection, yet eight pop-ups are set to open from California to Toronto. But the resident timeline for Gucci on Melrose surpasses that of a normal pop-up as the brand has plans to stay in the space come fall. The collaboration includes the historic emblems of both brands and incorporates the influence of athleisure wear from the ‘80s and ‘90s, and reconstructs it to fit current stylistic visions. Utilizing satin, knit and terry-cloth fabrics, as well as elongated tennis skirts, bomber jackets, loafers, rainbow platform sneakers and a line of bags featuring the Italian fashion house’s iconic green and red strap, Alessandro Michelle mixed the archetypal codes from both brands.
