ALEXANDER WANG "IMMIGRANT AMERICANA"

WANG BREAKS ALL FASHION RULES

Last January, fashion genius Alexander Wang made the announcement that he would be changing the dates of his NYC fashion shows to June and December, rather than the traditional February and September months. Not only did he change the dates, but he is also completely ditching the whole idea of seasonal names. Instead of “Spring 2019”, this collection is named Collection 1. Leave it to Wang to totally break the NYFW rules. The young designer is creating new ways and starting fresh. Each guest seat had a note that read “a new beginning, a new identity, and a new day for my brand.”

Chinoiserie, football jerseys, oversized leather jackets, bralettes, bandanas, tracksuits, denim shorts, and rock n’ roll. The collection consisted of mixed visuals of classic American pop culture and Asian imagery, symbolizing the designer’s roots and experience of growing up in the United States.

Black was the predominant color with pops of bright, rich red. A classic Americana combination that is timeless.

Models rocked a very Americana makeup look as well with stars and stripes on their face.

The overall vibe was edgy, vibrant, impactful and chic, without losing the touch of Wang’s classic street-wear style.

Some of the front row guests included Wang’s parents, supermodels Rosie Hungtington-Whiteley, Jourdan Dunn, and Anna Wintour. The fashion show took place at Pier 17 rooftop in the middle of the bright NYC lights. Although it was a cold night (it even drizzled), the show was full of energy; as Wang’s shows usually are.

A fresh-looking Behati Prinsloo made her first runway debut back after four months of having her second baby. Bella Hadid and Kaia Gerber walked as well, but it was the diversity and amount of new faces including Korean model Ez (Lee Ji Hye) walking the runway that really got people talking.
